Review: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 – Xbox 360

With Capcom, you begin to get used to… When a game works pretty well, the publisher decided to publish it by adding a few bonuses. Marvel vs Capcom 3 is no exception to the rule because this crazy fighting game is back with twelve new characters, eight new sets and a few new bonus. Should we all give into temptation?

The risk with Capcom is a title we just bought to be replaced next year by a repeat, or even a re-edition, as was the case with Street Fighter IV. Unfortunately, the first contact with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is not reassuring since both characters offered as DLC at the launch of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 are still not on the cake. To the extent that Jill is still conspicuously absent, and it was still one of the central characters of the saga, we say that a new edition “ultimate” should not be dismissed … It’s the risk.

In addition to this small but cruel disappointment, we note nevertheless that the main novelties of this edition are interesting for the fans. In addition to the rebalancing of the characters, which gives more or less all at the same level, we see that eight new sets are planned, with some taken from other courses of course, and therefore a small side of deja vu, but levels colored and relatively successful for most.

In terms of casting, there are twelve new characters, with really nice designs, such as Phoenix Wright or the kind of Raccoon superheroes from the Marvel universe. The new fighters are mostly at least, the best known one or two exceptions (Ghost Rider to name him)… But at least they have the advantage of being well used, very different from the rest of the cast and relatively well balanced. In total, there are therefore 48 fighters. It’s more than enough to make us rejoice and spend hours alone with our console either in Versus Mode, Arcade Mode or Online Mode.

The new menu is also very friendly. Online gaming still in hair and fashion Spectator Online makes the experience even more complete. In contrast, the new method allows us to play as Galactus, the final boss of foul play, is relatively uninteresting to the extent that the challenge is not really pointed arch and gameplay soporific. For 40 euros, however, it’s not bad at all, and it is especially an almost compulsory purchase if you do not hit the three or you are a fan of the undisputed series. For others, however there is much to be a bit more skeptical…

As in the previous two episodes, there is a nervous and fun gameplay based on fighting in groups of three fighters, super attacks and movements often hilarious. The game has not lost momentum and remains absolutely identical to its predecessor. The gameplay is always accurate, fun and very easy to approach, although some players will find it relatively soft messy at times.

Finally, on completion, it is always good with all the characters and scenes in 3D on a 2D plane, the whole being supported by beautiful visuals and a soundtrack of hell. In short, while retaining all the qualities of the original, this reissue proposed at €40 also provides a few very nice new features that should please the fans. New characters have a lot of charisma despite their lack of popularity. They should probably find an audience, especially since diversity is once again the watchword between characters who attack remote, other that are more focused melee responses or super attacks.

We still regret the treatment of Nemesis, not necessarily beautiful in nature, but much less in this version, and very heavy to handle compared to other new characters. Remains to wait for a (possible) other reissue to correct two / three defects mentioned or who knows, maybe a patch for free if Capcom decides to substantially change policy in a completely miraculous way… Full Point

Conclusion: To be taken more as a reprint than a suite, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is still a very good fighting game with ultra stylish graphics, fun gameplay and nervous and a lot of new fighters. We regret that still novelties are actually quite limited and is not necessarily worth all the trouble. As in the case of editions of Street Fighter IV, it is rather unfortunate that Capcom has not released all of this as a big patch or some DLC fee (as provided in the base), especially that the two characters sold as DLC at the launch of three MVC is still not on the cake! Will it take a new UMvC 3 Arcade Edition to enjoy it?

Anyway, if you have not touched the game or you’re a fan of the series, this new episode is worth the investment, although it is still imperfect.

The Good…

*very stylish graphics
*The super attacks
*rebalancing fighters
*gameplay hair always
*new characters + 12
*nine new sets + 8 Cool …

The Bad…

But with a sense of deja vu

- Becoming Galactus
- Finally, just a big re-release
