Since its inception in 2001 and now with nearly a dozen titles to its credit, the Ghost Recon series has become indispensable in the field of “strategic action”. Today, this new component transports the player in the near future by offering to experience the latest in reconnaissance and combat. Here are our impressions after a new half-hour mark and four solo missions.
First, it is necessary to address a given capital, revealed by the developers and named GunSmith (or “dealer” in French). The GunSmith is a kind of armory that contains all the weapons of the adventure (52 different) and 48 accessories that can be grafted. Specifically, this special menu, with an excellent interface thought (the weapon is dispersed into dozens of pieces when the customization), to customize the weapon at your leisure. And of course boost each of the six characteristics: Power, Scope, Getting Started, Charger, Rate of fire and maneuverability.
Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Exclusive look at all new Singleplayer Gameplay
The combinations are endless and the weapon that results is unique. The inspiration for the GunSmith, which should be essential in multi, comes from the U.S. Special Forces Navy Seals. The developers have also worked directly with them to character animation. Thus, all four members of the Ghost Recon team receives specific movements made motion capture with elite soldiers. Visually, with around 2500 animations per character, the result is particularly convincing.
In terms of handling, the player has no trouble directing his character (the three teammates are controlled by the AI in single player or other players in cooperative mode). It must be said that the developers have opted for a gameplay very accessible, close to a Call of Duty at the lever. Thus, it is possible to run, aim, shoot, reload, lend a hand-to-body, change weapons, crouch / lie down or use an object. Obviously, there are still some specific welcome.
First, in addition to displaying the map of places in transparency, the player is able to place markers on enemy targets. Just aim in turn from one to three enemy soldiers and press a button each time to a small cursor then appears above their head, a symbol of their marking. In the field, teammates are playing then the enemies so marked. The advantage is that now and then another key, a “Synch Shot” or Shooting Synchronized sounds: the Ghost Recon then shoot at the same time collapsing the target all together. Very convenient to get rid of annoying but also several guards worthy of the best spy movies / action. This marking is also accessible via a reconnaissance drone. Thus, during certain missions, pushing the D-pad down,’s character launches a small flying device. The latter is easily controllable if it can rise above the theater and sneak in just about anywhere.
Note, however, its scope is limited and if it exceeds a certain distance, the screen blurs and then the player has a handful of seconds to return to the area. With the drone, which remains destructible under fire, it is possible to identify not only the enemies but also to mark them remotely to trigger a Shooting Synchronized. Really cool. Only downside about the handling: like the character will automatically cover plate behind the scenes elements (walls, vehicles …) when it is near, it is sometimes difficult to only run between two rows of narrow obstacles without that it snaps away involuntarily. A little practice, however, should be sufficient to resolve this.
In the field, the phases of the game stand out mostly in two parts. The first is an identification of places and forces. The player is changing and with his team, three soldiers, each with a specialty, and should not make any mistakes that might be spotted. For example, it is impossible to kill a civilian, even inadvertently, otherwise it’s game over immediately. The second phase of the game is obviously that of combat. Here are the collateral damage and civilian casualties allowed remain acceptable (to the extent reasonable, of course). In combat, you are free to choose the style you want to use: infiltration or brutality. For it is quite possible to accomplish the missions by killing targets by stealth. Or, conversely, by playing the Call of Duty and gun down anything goes as in a FPS everything from classic. Whichever way you play, the result is surprisingly fun and enjoyable. For example, despite the large amount of actions you can perform many elements or used or available, the screen is never overloaded with information. Needless to say the parties together online, up to four players simultaneously, should be exciting.
Extracted at four missions of the campaign and playable solo, it was possible to travel alternately in several exotic countries: Bolivia, Zambia, Niger but also in Pakistan, specifically in Peshawar. Each, more or less didactic, had the opportunity to train with one of the characteristics of the game are: discrete infiltration, the Shooting Synchronized (in scrubs several soldiers in a row) and use of the drone (sequence fairly full-bodied in the street where it was necessary to evolve under fire enemy, cover to cover). Not to mention a long passage in which he had to follow an officer in the middle of the enemy camp, without ever being detected.
During these missions, the player could also test turns some nice options. Such as optical camouflage that is automatically activated when you are squatting, or Stealth Kill (stealth assassination) that offers to kill an enemy silently approaching from behind. Or the “Magnetic Goggles” special glasses that pass the screen in blue and can detect human bodies. Nice. Note also a very typical sequence last FPS during which, on board a helicopter, it was necessary to strafe enemy that subjective several Jeeps speeding on a mountain road. Finally, the gaming experience offered by this new Ghost Recon seems rather diverse and above all more than ever open to the widest audience.
After this new contact, it must be acknowledged that the next Ghost Recon seems to succeed the splits, standing by his choice of gameplay, from a strategic approach to fighting and a particularly explosive. Or between an achievement and a great intimate fireworks. Rather served aesthetically, this Future Soldier seems to have all the time it takes to win as many, including refractory players to the genre. A feat they hope will soon check in online multiplayer modes.
